Did we ever explain this blog? We started this so we could continue our window shopping on Craigslist without actually having to buy anything. The buying of things on CL was getting out of hand and we realized the finding of things was more important than the owning of things. We just love finding great stuff for good prices, or just great stuff period. It's like voyeurism...we see what people have been hiding in their homes and attics all these years and sometimes it's really something great that we know someone else would love. If you're like us, we could use some more contributing bloggers from other cities (what happened to the San Diego crew???), so send me an email via my contact page describing your CL addiction and we'll get you started.
Calling all Craiglist Addicts! We need you.

Portland: Passive Solar Cottage
I wasn't sure if I should post this on my green blog, or here, but because it was something found on Craigslist, I decided this was the best place for it. You can buy a complete sustainable home on Craigslist (for $16,000!). At 8'x26', it's tiny, but how much space do we really need anyway? I love the idea of living simply, even if it's just a theory rather than something I actually do. This would never hold all my Craigslist treasures.

Here's an absolutely lovely Danish Modern table. I pretty much love anything designed by Arne Vodder. I'd love to have this one, but I'm not a collector and this is too pricey for me. $375 http://portland.craigslist.org/wsc/fuo/1574843207.html

Recently, I made a post about a danish mid century modern sofa that I missed out on (Read: The One That Got Away).
I never thought I'd see it again, but here it is, on Craiglist once more and for a lot more money this time. This just shows that furniture dealers also cruise craigslists for steals, and sometimes they're faster than we are.

Re-nest.com has a special area on their website to showcase classified furniture ads submitted by fellow Craigslist Addicts and design lovers in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Boston and Washington. I love the coffee table in Chicago on this page. Maybe they'll add Portland and San Diego someday, but until then, you can always come here. Here's the page to bookmark to see the most recent Re-nest Scavenger finds.

1. Your spouse thinks you’re crazy and you admit you're crazy.
2. Your friends are addicted too.
3. You recognize someone that you had bought something from CL before (repeat offender).
4. No matter how hard you try your garage continues to be full of stuff you’re selling as you continue to find better stuff on CL.
5. You accidentally tweet a CL listing you’ve been pondering on Twitter.
6. You dream about that item you made arrangements to pick up first thing in the morning.
7. You like to call your house “The House that Craig Built.”
8. You’ve done two or more of the following in the past couple months: found your rental home on CL, sold an entire bedroom suite on CL, made a large CL purchase that you’re afraid to tell your spouse about, or found a new home for a pet.
9. You’ve been mega pissed when someone sold an item right out from under you even when you confirmed you would be there!
10. You’ve started or joined a blog as an outlet to help you with said addiction.
If you or someone you know could answer yes to any of these please feel free to email us to become a contributing writer.

I saw this sofa and flipped. I don't even need a new sofa, but this Danish Modern one was so cute and she only wanted $100 for it! I guess someone beat me to it, because she never called back and the ad was taken down later that day. So sad.

When I came across this ad I had to do a double take as I thought it was my ad that I had just posted last night. Look at the blatant plagiarism of every word of a few of my sentences! I was trying to sell my piece like a salesman so rather than be offended someone stole my writing I guess I should take it as a compliment. Their china cabinet is quite nice and a good price for what looks like teak. I still love my new one a lot more. My new one is huge and massive and will hold so much stuff. I also love the granny antique-y look to mine and the parts where the finish is coming off give it character.

Vintage Pyrex
Since I have no home of my own that needs furnishing, I have just been day dreaming about our future house, or rather - torturing myself by combing CL ads for rentals and Mid-century modern furniture to furnish said imaginary house. It is so very frustrating though to see all this cool stuff that I just can't buy! I have even thought that if I came across something that was just too good to pass up and the price was right, then I would stash it in our storage space. But alas, that is already jam packed from floor to ceiling and there is no way we could fit even the smallest side table (well, maybe just one side table) and a coupla boxes.
Itching to buy something "vintage" for our future house that was easy to collect and store in our storage space, I came across this this Vintage Pyrex on CL and fell in love! I am already a bit of a Pyrex hoarding, as I already have a box of unopened bake-and-store Pyrex in our storage space. But "Vintage Pyrex" -- that is a whole new world that I have just discovered. There is even a cute website called Pyrex Love that is dedicated to Vintage Pyrex and it even has a list of all the Vintage Pyrex Patterns you might come across.
So while I enviously watch you all furnish your homes with beautiful Mid-century modern furniture, I'll be over here in the corner (sigh)... collecting my Vintage Pyrex and stashing it away in our storage space like an old hoarding Granny! I might as well work on my Owl Collection, too, while I'm add it!
San Diego Mid-century Modern Estate Sale
I love this buffet and dining table! The teal upholstery on the chairs really make it "pop"! I don't know how much they are asking, but apparently they are having an estate sale this Saturday at 5802 Rockhurst Court, San Diego, 92120 near SDSU and the upscale community of Del Cerro. It's on Saturday, 1/16, 7am till 2pm and 1/17, 7am till noon! ... If anyone is interested... hopefully they actually have this furniture there and not just posting pictures of cool stuff to get people to come...

Patio Chair Project

When I bought a patio table from this lady on CL, she threw in three random chairs with the sale. I thought the fabric was pretty awful but planned to cover them with other outdoor fabric. I made it Joann's today, found some outdoor fabric that was 50% off, and did the project tonight. I plan to use these chairs outdoors in the patio. The photos show the transformation before and after.

I picked this up today from CL for $65. When I got home I realized it was in need of a lot of work. I made a quick trip to Home Depot and bought a Minwax Stain Marker and Restor-it (a cream furniture polish). The Restor-it worked wonders. The chest was so dusty and dull but after I used this product the warm tones of the wood really came out.
It still needs to be sanded down. The most damage is on the top. I decided right now I don't have the energy or time for a project like this so I just touched it up with the Stain Marker, threw a brown throw over the top of it and tried to make it cute with some throw pillows. What do you think?
Unfortunately, the chest didn't look so good at the foot of our bed since it stands taller than our low platform bed. The only other spot in the whole house would be below the window. I had to move out that reading chair I had there and moved it next to its pair in the living room.

Well, our blog is growing already! In the past two days we've added three more contributing writers for a total of five. I want to welcome: Deanna, Rebecca (Crooked Teeth and All--that's her name, I'm not calling her "Crooked Teeth." Ha!), and Dawn.
You all are encouraged to share anything you find interesting, unique, stylish and/or a good deal from the world wide web. This doesn't necessarily have to be from CL (just be sure you link the ad from CL if it is from CL so we don't run into any issues). You can also talk about music, art, design, photography, etc. This is our outlet for our addictions and as you can see, we're not alone! Let's use this blog to share our findings, things we're pondering, or our woes if we can't buy it. We can comment on each other's postings too. This way our spouses won't want to leave us for being total CL nuts. Ha!
I can't wait to see what everyone finds next and posts to this blog. Happy blogging!

I had to buy this too. I guess this blog isn't foolproof as I've made a couple purchases today. Well, the hubby said it was ok and I have a feeling it's because he wants to buy this vintage 1976 foosball table that just came up on CL.
I'm planning to sell the other china cabinet I have instead if I don't find another use for it. I might try to use it as a bookcase in the hallway....

When I saw This I just couldn't resist. It was love at first sight. Those legs were too sexy for me to walk away without making the call. I think this will go great at the foot of our bed, but it won't hold blankets, it will hold our huge vinyl record collection. Our records have been sitting in the garage right now but they cannot stay there once it gets hot.

I saw this marble topped coffee table today and decided it was true love, so it's sitting in our living room right now. I love it!
Two things I really like about this coffee table:
1) It's simple and sleek.
2) It's round so we don't have to make our two-year-old wear a crash helmet around it (although his head would probably still smart a bit from the hard marble).
And, people can put their sweaty drinking glasses all over it and I don't need to be anal about coasters.
I guess that's three things.

I love how this company/person takes vintage furniture with cool, sleek lines and gives it a cool paint job. I'm assuming the furniture needed to be refinished anyway, so this breathes new life into a nice vintage piece. I would love this for my son's room but I'm at my limit for CL purchases right now. Someone should buy this. It's super cute!

I'm only posting this to show the incredible difference you get in price on CL. This set is very similar to the one I just bought (for $175) and it doesn't even include the buffet. The wood looks darker and warmer and the upholstery is leather/pleather, while mine is a subtle floral granny looking fabric, which I happen to like a lot. I can't believe this person is trying to sell just the table and chairs for $800. While this a very cool looking set, it is way overpriced! It'll be interesting to see if someone actually buys this at this price.
